Dull Men's Club

This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men’s Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

The knife skates off the crust and the inside is fluffy and soft.

Had a few deck boards that were completely rotten through. As in step in the wrong spot and the foot is going through the deck. And a few others that were just half rotten.

Took out the grass below, came out in a nice sheet (zoysia). Planted that in a bare spot behind the pool.

The kids wanted pasta for dinner, but not “Pasta La Dorka” as we call it here when it’s simplified as much as possible. They wanted my homebrewed one. It takes time, but it’s alright. Currently reducing to get all the water from canned tomatoes and shrooms away.

Today I got an estimate for fixing my cheap Amazon-special 9000 BTU mini split that the proper prior resident installed.

This one spins the lead as you write so it stays sharp!

The two on the right I’ve had before, and are amazing, but the others are new and very delicious. The apple pie one will go well with my pork, apple and fennel sausage rolls, I reckon. Fruity hot sauces are some of the best.

It’s always a welcome sight to wake in the morning after a fall rain and seeing that you are being visited by the shaggy mane mushrooms. They don’t show up every year and the numbers can vary from only a few to covering the whole hillside for the next several weeks.

I stumbled upon an old Thinkpad with an empty CMOS battery. Sadly it was shrinkwrapped, so I took the one naked CR2025 I still had and wrapped it in paper-ish packaging tape to prevent shortcircuits.

The maples are making a good start on packing it in for the year as usual. Soon the ash and poplar trees will follow. Leaving the just the red pines to hold the green and defend against the winter.

We had a family gathering to celebrate a Birthday last weekend. The usual: having barbecue, hanging around, eating cake.

I used screen printing plates which are framed in aluminium plofiles and acryllic glass roof plates. It has two sliding doors. It gets really hot in there in the summer, so lots of openings for ventilation

Microwave has been on the counter for a few weeks, since neutral on this one kept floating.

I’m a mobile developer and my desk has always been a mess because of all of the devices I need to manually test on scattered about.

My rain gage got it’s first test the other day. We got a nice 1 7/10” of rain in there. The water line is just barely visible under the bottom holder bracket.

And it shows. The water level in my well is finally raising again. It has been 2cm* at the lowest point

It beeps when it’s done.

I use shampoo from a large bottle with a pump. The pump can’t get the last bit out of the bottle.

It was covered by another bedsheet, but because the cover folded in itself that was much harder to untangle and I had to turn a drier again. It took more time to post it here though ;)

I got this entertainment center from my roommate when we went our separate ways and I dont remember why this shelf didnt have the brackets it came with or if this shelf even was made for this but regardless, it made using this shelf a hazard.

While I’m fairly certain the lake I live next to will prevent freezing, to it’s best ability for a while yet, you never can tell. But it’s only a matter of another week or so before the firt killing frost around here.

Already knew the basics of C++ but trying to learn more. Kinda sick of being dependent on LLMs for writing graphical applications for me. Claude is just as good as an youtube totorial, i’ll tell you that. I went shopping for shoes with my daughter and we found this pair of pink tennis shoes. Nothing expensive, just something she can break in with no real concern as she is still growing fast.

After hemming and hawing for that last couple of months after my trusty old glass rain gage shattered in a very heavy thunderstorm, I finally got a new one ordered and installed to replace it. As befitting an old fart Grandpa that wears bifocals, it’s got Ezy read numbers. (and for those in LA, yes it measures inches).

Its an old LG, but given the recent light on the lengths they’ll go to spy on us, I figured this guy was better off without any ability to even connect wirelessly. Don’t know if the Ethernet still works but I plan on keeping my TVs as dumb as possible, HDMI only.

I haven’t had frozen banana since the chocolate covered ones when I was a kid. I remember them being very hard. Maybe these weren’t in the freezer long enough to get that hard. Tasted like banana ice cream, but it was just banana.

Its a Smart Forfour (454). The front seats fold down and so you can fit 2 people in there. But i want to drive mostly alone, well see.

I was doing a job for a customer and they mentioned moving abroad. I half-jokingly asked if they were taking the trailer too or if I could buy it and they were more than happy to sell it. I deducted the price from the invoice. They lost a trailer and they have to pay me 400 euros. Good deal.

I got to hand cut the stringers. I measured everything out with a framing square. It was all very confusing and then it just clicked, so that’s nice.

I shouldn’t go on Amazon in the middle of the night. But at least I have all my childhood favorites

Sump pumps are one of the most boring parts of home ownership. Until that one storm comes and suddenly they’re interesting.

It’s been about 20 years since the last time I did it. All hail the gods of thermal conductivity!

Wish my skills were this good when I redid the seals on 2 windows on my daily driver.

We moved backward in time when we needed a new car and got an early 2000s Toyota. Mainly was for ease of repair, due to what electronics and dealer costs are these days. But also the new vehicles all have telemetry and sell your data to advertisers and insurers.

I have a brand new, unused one as well but I’m saving it untill this one is no longer good. This is roughly 7 years old and gets used monthly. I always put a trash bag over it which is why it’s still relatively clean.

it seems like the pins were loose and replacing these cables would only cost some few bucks but it would take weeks to be delivered, so i decided to melt the connector, painfully solder it and cover it with some rubber glue. botchy work? yes, but works fine now :)

A small update from a few days ago. To save you a click, it turns out that if you apply PVC cement and don’t push the pipes together you won’t actually make a good joint. Who knew.

The mouse buttons have been double clicking for a while and the wheel started to becoming sticky.

The other day my car started misfiring. I performed a cylinder drop test by disconnecting each ignition coil and determined the misfire was coming from cylinder 2. I then swapped coils to see if that was the issue and the misfire disappeared completely. I did go ahead and replace that ignition coil with a name brand coil ( not cheap generic from the jungle site!)

It’s sturdy, stable, weather resistant, not too terribly heavy, just the right height … what’s not to like?

I always ruin clothes because I never remember to get changed or put overalls on before working on vehicles or painting or whatever.

My office fan went from squeaking a little when I first turned it on, but then the quieting down once it warmed up, to full on constant high pitched whine that didn’t stop.

Replaced the capacitor and all has been running cool again for about a week. Replaced my neighbor’s too. Theirs stopped working again after 48 hrs. One more replacement on theirs and we’re at 72 hrs of runtime since replacement.
